Aruna Rehabilitation Service emerged on the 4th of February 2019 treating its first patient, with an acquired brain injury, under the professional care of Dr Arti Fayers, Rehabilitation Medicine Physician. Our purpose is to provide you with a holistic rehabilitation service that provides a private avenue for people like yourself in your rehabilitation journey. When we meet you, you or your loved one are investing in professional management of your particular condition. We understand you are in the most traumatic transition in your life, and our service will provide compassionate, personalised care, transparency and assistance to help you achieve your mobility and functional goals and achieve your optimal abilities with our trusted allied health rehabilitation colleagues.
Rehabilitation Medicine is a unique specialty in medicine that focuses on optimising mobility and functional recovery of patients who have sustained catastrophic injuries and significant medical and surgical events in their lives. In our practice we focus on patients, young and older adults, with disability and physical impairments that always have scope to improve.
A Rehabilitation Physician undergoes years of postgraduate training in the rehabilitation medicine, the management of chronic/sub-acute medical and surgical conditions while they recover. Our expertise lies in holistic patient centred care of the most vulnerable members of our community, often those without a voice due to their disability being physical, cognitive and functional impairment.

About
Dr Arti Fayers is a qualified Consultant Rehabilitation Physician. She completed her postgraduate training in Rehabilitation Medicine in Western Australia, Victoria and Tasmania and is a Fellow of the Australian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM). Aruna Rehabilitation Service is a private rehabilitation medicine service now operating an outpatient clinic from Floreat Forum Shopping Centre.
Dr Fayers also currently works at the State Head Injury Unit of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. She has also previously worked at the State Rehabilitation Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Community Rehabilitation Program at Bentley Hospital and Community Rehabilitation Program at Armadale Health Service. She has extensive experience in every aspect of rehabilitation medicine and her focus is on assessment of functional loss, disability management and assisting patients to achieve independence within their physical, cognitive, and functional limitations and to improve their quality of life. Her aim is to support patients on their rehabilitation journey, providing clear and realistic goals.
Following her assessment of the patient, Dr Fayers formulates an optimal rehabilitation plan that will maximise their mobility and functional independence. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team comprised of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, clinical psychologists, exercise physiologists and neuropsychologists along with various other specialist physicians and surgeons to coordinate rehabilitation management of patients. She has an excellent reputation in providing dedicated, honest, and transparent care to patients.

Broken bones can vary from a simple fracture of an arm after a fall, to multiple complicated musculoskeletal injuries after a motor vehicle accident. Either way, you have a restriction on body movement and function which we at Aruna Rehab can assist with. With the speciality input from a qualified Rehabilitation Physician working along side our carefully selected interdisciplinary team we aim to assist you with your mobility and functional recovery to achieve what is realistic to your pre-injury function. We work closely with Orthopaedic Surgeons to ensure continuity of care.
Spinal Cord Injuries
Injury to the Spinal cord has many aspects the general public may not be aware of. Not only can it affect your ability to move your limbs, but can affect areas such as pain and temperature regulation, bowel and badder management, sexual function etc. At Aruna Rehab, we will assess your current spinal impairment and ensure you have an optimal rehabilitation journey no matter how far along you are. Beyond our interdisciplinary team we engage with trusted spinal urology nurses and specialists who understand your condition.
Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation
When you or a loved one sustains an ABI, it is a life changing event, personally, financially and vocationally. In ABI rehabilitation we explore who you were pre-injury and based on the degree of injury, we facilitate a goal orientated rehabilitation approach. Mild, Moderate and Severe ABI have very different recovery outcomes with respect to the cognitive, neurobehavioural, communication, mobility and functional aspects. We hold an interdisciplinary approach to rehabilitation management sourcing clinicians with highly experienced understanding of ABI. Rehabilitation Medicine Physician will facilitate in coordinating your disability management over 12-24 months to achieve the most optimal outcomes to allow you to have a quality of life that is respectful and meaningful.
Neurological and Stroke Conditions
The brain is the control centre of the body. When it is injured through ABI as described above, or by stroke or by insidious conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease or Cerebral Palsy to name but a few, your mobility, functional, communication and cognitive independence is impacted. We also provide assessment and management of Functional Neurological Disorder condition. At Aruna Rehab, we specialise in the rehabilitation of your specific condition. You can be rest assured that our Rehabilitation Medicine Physicians are qualified under the Australian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) and are experts in achieving optimal functional outcomes.
Amputee Rehabilitation
The loss of any limb is traumatic, be it through trauma or severe illness affecting a patient’s activities of daily living, mobility and function. The repercussion of this limb loss could impact vocational ability, recreational ability, socialisation and psychologically. With Aruna Rehab we can be involved from pre-amputation care through to post amputation with residual limb management and prosthesis planning. Engagement with our service and our interdisciplinary approach will help facilitate ongoing personalised management of your residual limb and prosthesis.
Late Effects Disability Assessments
After major trauma or chronic medical illness such as polio, you are stable, but the ongoing affects of your illness linger. With vast experience in this area, we coordinate your recovery with respect to mobility and functional management with our interdisciplinary approach.
General Rehabilitation
Deconditioning post lengthy hospitalisation requires rehabilitation input. The essence lies in a simple premise, if you were functioning normally pre-injury and are not where you used to be, a review with a Rehabilitation Physician may be required.
Spasticity Management
Spasticity is when a muscle in your body becomes tight due to brain or spinal cord injury due to interrupted signals telling it what to do, affecting your ability to participate in activities of daily living. This prevents normal range of motion, can resist stretching and result in impairment of gait and movement. Muscle spasm is where a muscle contracts involuntary causing pain, but easily resolved with stretches and heat. Contracture is when a muscle becomes fixed and painful due to brain or spinal cord injury affecting your activities of daily living and requires surgical intervention.
With speciality input from a Rehabilitation physician the spasticity can be managed with oral medications or through Botulinum Toxin injections to provide relief and improve mobility and functional capacity if PBS requirements are met.
Consultation Fees
Aruna Rehabilitation Service is a private rehabilitation service. Our fees are based on the recommended AMA rates 1st November 2023 which are aligned annually with Australian CPI. Our fees fairly reflect the experience and valued opinions of our Rehabilitation Medicine Physicians, the high quality of staff we employ and our disability friendly premises. With respect to the current impacts of COVID-19 we have chosen not to increase our fees at this time.
We do not provide bulk-billing services as we are a Private Practice. Insurance and NDIS clients are required to have funding approved prior to the appointment unless they are self funding. Medicare does not cover NDIS or Insurance funded appointments as they are separate funding platforms. Please note that outpatient consultations are not currently covered by Private Health Funds. Prior to your appointment you will be emailed a statement of fees related to the particular service we are providing to you. For self funding patients, payment is required in full on the day of the appointment and your Medicare rebate will be processed immediately through our practice software.
If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours notice you may be charged a cancellation fee.
As a private practice we do not accept Senior or Pension cards.
